Each of our Junior Woman's Club meetings center around a community service project area. At our recent meeting the International Outreach CSP hosted a speaker and we hope to begin a new service project to serve internationally.
At our club meeting last night, Lorraine Dabney, member of the GFWC Lutz-Land o' Lakes Woman's Club instructed the Juniors' members on how to make little girl's sundresses from pillow cases! These dresses when finished are shipped to third world countries such as Guatemala or Africa and are perfect outfits for the heat that is well known in those countries.
It seems fairly simple- just fold the pillow case in half length wise and cut an armhole on either side. Then sew bias tape around the armholes and finish up with bric brac for decoration. You can either stitch or sew ribbon for the shoulders. Lorraine also showed us how to make a cute dress from a child's t-shirt. These little sundresses will be sent to those countries where it is hot most of the time.
Several members took a sample dress home to attempt to make some dresses. This is a very worthwhile project!
The Juniors are also donating their spare change to our "Heifer Box"! Donations made to Heifer International go towards the purchase of a dairy animal in third world countries.
