Providing Hope At A Home Away From Home

American Cancer Society is on a mission to support individuals, and their caregivers, whom are undergoing treatment to rid themselves of cancer. Their Hope Lodge new Moffitt Cancer Center offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when their best hope for effective treatment may be in another city. Not having to worry about where to stay or how to pay for lodging allows guests to focus on getting better. Hope lodge provides nurturing, home-like environment where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others.

The GFWC Pasco Juniors have worked with our local Hope Lodge through the years by providing a meal for the individuals that are taking temporary residency at this facility. Due to ongoing COVID restrictions, the members were not able to provide an in person support, interacting with the patients and their caregivers like they have in the past. However, that did not them from providing a much appreciated, nutritious, home made dinner. Members each provided a dish to feed the 50 individuals on site for the evening. Although they weren't in person to share their support, the love is received through the effort shown with this delivery.

Feeding Those In Need With Feeding Tampa Bay

Trinity Cafe is a free, full service restaurant for those in need of a healthy mean today. 365 days a year, their chef prepares fresh, nutritious dishes for their guests. A 3-course meal is served on site or collected through their "pick up" options at 3 different locations. These meals are prepared and served with dignity by volunteers throughout the Tampa Bay Area.

Two Pasco Juniors and their family volunteered their time to assist at one of the locations during the month of April. The opportunity allows our members to give back to the community with nothing more than their time. Seeing the dozens of individuals coming through the door and enjoying a hot meal can warm the heart of any volunteer.

Sexual Abuse Awareness Month

April is Sexual Abuse Awareness Month. A representative from the local abuse shelter, Sunrise of Pasco, came to Pasco Juniors' April General Meeting to talk about how they are providing services in our area for those in need.

Sunrise of Pasco is based out of Dade City providing resources for individuals and families fleeing from an unhealthy situation. Abuse can manifest in a number of ways, from, the most obvious, a physical manner to a subtle restrictive and negative lifestyle. Sunrise of Pasco does have a shelter for individuals and families that are fleeing these types of situations. The local shelter provides up to 40 beds for survivors and is in constant need for essentials for these individuals. At the meeting, several members donated shelter essentials for the ladies currently taking shelter at Sunrise.

Pasco Juniors, More Than Just Service

The General Federation Of Woman's Clubs are on a mission to work in their own communities to support the arts, preserve natural resources, advance education, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding. Through such a great purpose, our members form lasting friendships. The Pasco Juniors try to have occasional socials with no agenda, other than to reinforce these friendly relationships.

For the St. Patrick's Day holiday, a group of our Juniors gathered to participate in themed trivia at a local Irish Pub to enjoy each other's company. Just one benefit of joining a local GFWC is making new friends!
