September 2015 - Canine Companions for Independence

Hello all!

Our little club had a great speaker this month.  Now, perhaps you locals have heard about an event coming up this fall.  November 8, 2015 to be exact.  Dogfest is coming to the Bay!

Dogfest is a fundraising and fun having event to be held on USF campus.  There is a walk, there will be music, games, vendors - it is surely gearing up to be something else!

Now back to little old us - we had the delight of hearing Mr. Mort Stone talk about Canine Companions for Independence and the great things they do.

Did you know that a person deemed eligible for one of dogs does not have to pay for this dog or his or her training?  I assure you, there is quite extensive training, both for the dog and the recipient!

Mr. Stone demonstrated what Oscar can do, and wowed us all with the delicate operations this amazing pup performs!

He could pick up change off the floor if needed.  Can you just see a dog, and Oscar was a Labrador or a Lab mix, picking up a dime off the floor?   And this is only the start!

We donated some food and some funds to Mort's account on the fund raising side.

In encourage you to come out for Dog Fest!  It is sure to have something amazing to see or hear.

Happy August!

Hello all!

Just coming off a meeting high here.

At our August General Meeting we ran through our business pretty quickly, collecting school supplies for a local elementary and reminding  everyone of the Fall Boards dates and location.  Reviewed a few upcoming projects and events  - don't forget to gather some donations for the upcoming Quarter Auction! - before gearing our brains up for our illustrious speaker, Dionna Farmer.

Dionna is fabulous and offered a lot of information and pointers about Leadership and the GFWC.  As we have some newer members, her experience was just the ticket to get the best answer to some lingering questions and confusion.  I know I for one am going back to the GFWC and GFWC Florida web pages to read some things again.

Now, lets take those suggestions and run with them!  We will make this club Even Better!  (just imagine!)

Thanks to all who attended.  We can't make it without you!

Have a great week everyone!

INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH PROJECT AND SPEAKER

GFWC Pasco Juniors focused on International Outreach projects in April, We  were  excited to host a guest presenter, Cindy McFadden from Fish Company.  It is a non-profit which helps to fund orphanages in several parts of the world, including Thailand, Uganda, and Tanzania. They raise money through donations, but also by making and selling hand-made gifts. All of the items they use to make the gifts are donated, and 100% of the proceeds from the sales of these items go to funding the orphanages. She spoke about some of the ways in which they help these children, and directed our club members with a hands-on project of cutting out material following a pattern for the group to sew into handbags to sell.

March of Dimes!

Many thanks to all ladies who attended the Pasco Junior Woman's Club meeting at our new location at Lexington Oaks Community Center! We had a great planning meeting and came up with so many good community activities for the upcoming year! Why don't YOU come to the next meeting and see what we are all about???

We are collecting dimes for our baby bottles for the March of Dimes.  This worthy charity is one of the partnerships that we have and falls under our "One Voice for Children" projects!  Angie Carter and Leori Porter are shaking our bottles of dimes!

We're getting ready to walk in March for Babies! It promises to be a fun day out with people who share our passion for improving the health of babies. Join family teams, company teams and people walking with friends for a great cause: making a difference for real families right here in our community. Sign up and raise money to help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
To register for the walk or for more information go to this site:

Essential Oils and Health

At our first monthly meeting, we had a speaker from Doterra talk with us about how essential oils can help you manage your health.

Thanks Debbie!

She was kind enough to pass around some samples, letting us smell and try out some of her stash.

Did you know peppermint oil can help with asthma?  I didn't, but can see how it would after experiencing it myself!

Thanks to our 2015 Executive Board for what is gearing up to be a great year!

Happy New Year!

Hello everyone out there in the world!

As we start this new year, we are going to be doing some great new projects.

Stay tuned for 2015 done the GFWC Pasco Juniors' way!
